All insulation has it s draw backs though if i had to do my own attic i d go with a 1 layer of spray foam and then do mineral wool batt insulation over top. If your attic or wall insulation is in batt or blanket form whether it s fiberglass cellulose or another material you generally don t have to be concerned about asbestos. Fluffing what you have now would save you a little bit of cellulose but if you still fill to the same depth but would leave you less insulated. Loose fill insulation comes in a variety of materials.

Then with the rake you can fluff the insulation that you walked all over and use the teeth of the rake to reach down into the areas where it is packed down and loosen it up if you are that concerned about it. In an attic there is a tremendous amount of pressure developed as air enters through the eave vents and travels upward to exit through the upper portion. Or do i need to get new insulation put in. Another trick that i have used before while working in homes is take a garden rake into the attic with you.
