Garage Door Handle Fell Off

Look inside the doorknob hole and locate the latching mechanism.

Slide the lock box downward and away from the protruding end of the t handle retaining screw. Using an awl or small screwdriver push the button in all the way and at the same time pull off the handle. Slide the lock box off the square shaft protruding through the garage door from the t handle. The knob on the other side of the door is no longer attached either so it will be loose and eventually will fall off.

Typically the problem is the result of a missing or loose screw in the house door plate. Step 3 remove the t handle retaining screws from the outside of the door with a phillips screwdriver.

Close the garage door. Move to the inside of the garage. The garage door wire cable can come off of the drum pulley spool which can be quite frustrating to repair. Release the tab or button remove the inside doorknob by locating the button like our model metal tab or wire clip on the side of the knob that acts as a release.
